Zoom App for Slack

The core integration — type /zoom in any channel to start a meeting, sync your Slack status when you’re on a call, and control which channels can use the app.

What you need: Slack workspace, paid Zoom account.

What it does: Users type /zoom to start meetings from Slack. Presence sync shows “In a Zoom meeting” status. Admins control installation, channel restrictions, and permissions.

Meeting Summaries to Slack

AI Companion generates meeting summaries automatically and posts them to Slack — key discussion points, action items with assignees, and recording links.

What you need: Paid Zoom plan (AI Companion is included free), Zoom app for Slack installed.

What it does: After every meeting, AI Companion generates a summary and posts it to the user’s configured Slack channel. No manual note-taking. Action items are extracted with assignees. Recording links are included. See AI Companion vs. Copilot cost analysis — this feature is free with Zoom while comparable Microsoft Copilot meeting summaries cost $30/user/month.

Zoom Phone Notifications

Get missed call and voicemail notifications in Slack. The native Zoom Slack app doesn’t cover phone events, so this uses Zapier or custom webhooks.

What you need: Zoom Phone license, Zapier account (for no-code) or development resources (for custom webhook).

What it does: When a voicemail is received or a call is missed, a notification posts to the configured Slack channel with caller name, number, duration, and a link to listen/call back.

All ZoomZoom Team ChatZoom MeetingsZoom PhoneSingle vendor, simpler licensing, AI included
Slack + Google MeetSlackGoogle MeetGoogle VoiceGoogle Workspace shop that prefers Slack

Recommendation: If your org already pays for Slack and values its messaging features (workflows, Slack Connect, app ecosystem), keep Slack for messaging and use Zoom for meetings and phone. The /zoom integration makes them work well together. If you’re reducing vendors, Zoom Team Chat can replace Slack for organizations with simpler messaging needs.

Deployment Checklist

  • Install Zoom app in Slack workspace (admin install)
  • Approve the app if your workspace requires app approval
  • Test /zoom command — verify meeting creation and join link
  • Communicate to users — they need to link their Zoom account on first use
  • Enable presence sync — include in onboarding docs
  • Configure channel restrictions if needed
  • Set up meeting summaries to Slack (if using AI Companion)
  • Set up phone notifications (if using Zoom Phone)

Common Issues

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start a Zoom meeting from Slack?

Type /zoom in any Slack channel or DM and press Enter. This creates an instant Zoom meeting and posts the join link in the conversation. You can also type /zoom meeting [topic] to set a meeting topic.

Can Zoom automatically update my Slack status when I'm in a meeting?

Yes. The Zoom app for Slack can automatically set your Slack status to 'In a Zoom meeting' when you join a meeting, and clear it when the meeting ends. This must be enabled by the user in the Zoom app's Home tab in Slack.

Can Zoom AI Companion post meeting summaries to Slack?

Yes. Enable AI Companion meeting summaries in Zoom admin settings, then configure Slack as a sharing destination. Summaries (key points, action items, recording links) are posted to your chosen Slack channel within minutes of the meeting ending.

Does the Zoom Slack integration support Zoom Phone?

The standard Zoom for Slack app focuses on meetings. Zoom Phone notifications (missed calls, voicemail) can be sent to Slack via Zapier or a custom webhook integration. There's no native /zoom phone command.

Should I use Zoom Team Chat or Slack?

If your org already pays for Slack and values its messaging features (workflows, app integrations, Slack Connect), keep Slack for messaging and use Zoom for meetings and phone. If you're looking to reduce vendor count and cost, Zoom Team Chat can replace Slack for simpler messaging needs.
