This guide covers the Zoom + Slack integration — starting meetings from channels, syncing presence, posting AI meeting summaries, and getting Zoom Phone notifications. Each feature has its own setup guide — use this page to understand what’s available, then follow the links.
Integration Overview
| Feature | What It Does | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom App for Slack | /zoom command, meeting links in channels, presence sync, admin controls | Install guide → |
| Meeting Summaries to Slack | AI Companion posts meeting summaries to Slack channels | Setup guide → |
| Zoom Phone Notifications | Missed call and voicemail alerts in Slack channels | Setup guide → |
Zoom App for Slack
The core integration — type /zoom in any channel to start a meeting, sync your Slack status when you’re on a call, and control which channels can use the app.
What you need: Slack workspace, paid Zoom account.
What it does: Users type /zoom to start meetings from Slack. Presence sync shows “In a Zoom meeting” status. Admins control installation, channel restrictions, and permissions.

Meeting Summaries to Slack
AI Companion generates meeting summaries automatically and posts them to Slack — key discussion points, action items with assignees, and recording links.
What you need: Paid Zoom plan (AI Companion is included free), Zoom app for Slack installed.
What it does: After every meeting, AI Companion generates a summary and posts it to the user’s configured Slack channel. No manual note-taking. Action items are extracted with assignees. Recording links are included. See AI Companion vs. Copilot cost analysis — this feature is free with Zoom while comparable Microsoft Copilot meeting summaries cost $30/user/month.

Zoom Phone Notifications
Get missed call and voicemail notifications in Slack. The native Zoom Slack app doesn’t cover phone events, so this uses Zapier or custom webhooks.
What you need: Zoom Phone license, Zapier account (for no-code) or development resources (for custom webhook).
What it does: When a voicemail is received or a call is missed, a notification posts to the configured Slack channel with caller name, number, duration, and a link to listen/call back.

Zoom Team Chat vs. Slack: Feature Comparison
Zoom Team Chat and Slack are both team messaging platforms. If your organization uses both, you’re paying for overlapping functionality.
Messaging & Collaboration
| Capability | Zoom Team Chat | Slack |
|---|---|---|
| Channels | Yes | Yes |
| Direct messages | Yes | Yes |
| Threaded replies | Yes | Yes |
| Message reactions | Yes | Yes (extensive) |
| File sharing | Yes | Yes |
| Search | Basic | Advanced (filters, modifiers, in-channel) |
| Huddles (audio/video) | Zoom Meetings (full) | Slack Huddles (lightweight, 50 participants) |
| Canvas / Notes | Zoom Docs | Slack Canvas |
| External collaboration | External contacts | Slack Connect |
| App integrations | ~2,500 apps | ~2,600 apps |
| Workflow automation | Limited | Slack Workflow Builder |
| Custom bots | Zoom Chat apps | Slack Bolt SDK (more mature) |
Voice & Video
| Capability | Zoom | Slack |
|---|---|---|
| Video meetings | Up to 1,000 participants | Huddles (50 max, lightweight) |
| Phone system | Zoom Phone (full PBX) | No native phone |
| Webinars | Zoom Webinars / Events | No equivalent |
| Contact center | Zoom Contact Center | No equivalent |
Key difference: Slack is messaging-first with lightweight audio/video. Zoom is communications-first with messaging. Slack has better messaging features (search, workflows, app ecosystem). Zoom has better meetings, phone, and video.
AI Features
| Capability | Zoom AI Companion | Slack AI |
|---|---|---|
| Meeting/huddle summary | Yes (full summaries) | Huddle notes (limited) |
| Channel summarization | No | Yes — “Catch me up” on channels |
| AI-powered search | No | Yes |
| Smart compose | Yes (chat and email) | No |

| Pricing | Included in paid plans | $10/user/month add-on |

Common Deployment Patterns
| Pattern | Messaging | Meetings | Phone | Why This Works |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slack + Zoom | Slack | Zoom | Zoom Phone | Best messaging (Slack) + best meetings/phone (Zoom) |
| All Zoom | Zoom Team Chat | Zoom Meetings | Zoom Phone | Single vendor, simpler licensing, AI included |
| Slack + Google Meet | Slack | Google Meet | Google Voice | Google Workspace shop that prefers Slack |
| Microsoft Teams | Teams Chat | Teams Meetings | Teams Phone | Full Microsoft consolidation |
Recommendation: If your org already pays for Slack and values its messaging features (workflows, Slack Connect, app ecosystem), keep Slack for messaging and use Zoom for meetings and phone. The /zoom integration makes them work well together. If you’re reducing vendors, Zoom Team Chat can replace Slack for organizations with simpler messaging needs.
